Trust and JUST DO IT…

Trust and JUST DO IT…

Ever had things that seem to just stay on your to do list and you either keep rewriting them or moving them to the next week? Ever hear yourself say…when this happens I will be able to do the other….or…once I finish this I can start that, or something similar? Our mind here often goes to work related tasks. Let’s take it into the realm of adventure. The idea might even be a really good idea but something stops us committing to action…we tell ourselves we will get around to it one day but that day just never seems to arrive, or we wait for someone else to say yes, but they never do. Most of us know the feeling..just like standing on the diving board and looking over the edge..walking back and forward..it doesn’t get better or easier…it just gets to the point that we make a decision to jump…or not. Nobody else owns that decision (albeit that there are often cheerleaders or discouragers in the audience). It is yours. Just do it. How good does it feel when you do take that leap? Most people I talk to never regret the decisions that made to just do things, but all of us can make a list of the things we regret NOT doing.

Action trumps knowledge every time. Your knowledge may grow, but until action is taken, the knowledge has little or no value. Many of us like to analyse all risks and try predict all outcomes and then evaluate those options again, time and time again. This may be relevant in some areas of life…potentially…but in the adventure space do you really need to do that? Try this for size. Get up, put your shoes on, walk out the door and find a bush track to walk on (you can ask google to help you if you don’t know where one is) …walk on it. That is as simple as it needs to be. Don’t think about the fact that it may rain, or that you may miss a phone call, or that you still have to do the washing, or that you don’t know the way, or that you might wait for someone else…that is the exhausting bit…big or small…whatever your starting point is…take the chance and step into it.

It is true, we may make a choice to just do it and make a mistake. There is that possibility with everything we do in life, no matter how much planning and risk analysis we do. But what if we took a different perspective, what if they were not mistakes but rather learnings, opportunities to grow, to realise what we need to look at in life….? Asking yourself where else in life do those ‘mistakes’ show up?

Today one of our fellow adventurers at The Wild Health Hub shared this quote and it sums up perfectly…

When you walk to the edge of all the light you have and take that first step into the darkness of the unknown, you must believe that one of two things will happen. There will be something solid for you to stand upon or you will be taught to fly.
